FRAGRANCE  •  PSYCHOLOGY  •  PERSONAL STYLE

For me, fragrance has never been simply about smelling good. It is about memory, emotion, personality, confidence, style, and the experiences we associate with scent.

I have spent more than 35 years wearing, collecting, and exploring fragrances. I created Smell Me Daddy as a place to share that passion from a perspective that isn't always represented in the fragrance community—that of an older gay man with a lifelong appreciation for fragrance, fashion, and personal style.

My Background in Psychology

My approach to fragrance is also shaped by my extensive background in psychology, psychological assessment, and the study of human perception.

My graduate studies included specialization in neuropsychology and forensic psychology, along with extensive training in sensation and perception—the processes through which the brain receives, organizes, and interprets information from our senses. This training gave me a deeper appreciation for the fascinating relationship between physical sensory input and our individual experience of the world around us.

My professional and research experience included cognitive and clinical assessment, psychological test development, and standardized assessment research. My research explored areas including nonverbal learning disabilities and cognitive assessment profiles, and my assessment work contributed to research and standardization efforts involving professionally developed psychological and educational instruments.

It is my background in sensation and perception that creates one of the most interesting connections between my experience in psychology and my passion for fragrance.

Smelling a fragrance isn't simply about detecting aromatic molecules. Our experience of scent is influenced by sensory processing, attention, perception, memory, association, expectation, and emotion.

Two people can smell exactly the same fragrance and walk away with remarkably different impressions—and both experiences can be completely genuine.

That understanding influences the way I evaluate fragrance. I don't think of a fragrance simply as a list of notes printed on a box. I am interested in the complete sensory experience: what my nose detects, how I perceive and interpret it, how that perception changes as the fragrance develops, and how memory, emotion, and personal experience shape my response to it.

For me, fragrance sits at a fascinating intersection between two worlds that have been important throughout my life:

the psychology of how we perceive the world and the artistry of how fragrance allows us to experience it.

My Approach to Fragrance

My philosophy is pretty straightforward:

Smell it. Wear it. Experience it.
Then form your own opinion.

Through Smell Me Daddy, I want to share honest reviews, fragrance education, personal experiences, and what I've learned during decades of exploring scent. My goal is to make fragrance more approachable without taking away the artistry, psychology, and complexity that make it so fascinating.

I enjoy everything from revisiting fragrances that have been around for decades to discovering contemporary designer and niche releases. I believe every bottle has the potential to tell a story, evoke a memory, create a mood, or simply make you feel incredible when you wear it.

Most importantly, I don't believe fragrance should be about wearing what someone else tells you that you should like.

Fragrance is intensely personal. Your experiences, memories, preferences, and perceptions belong to you—and ultimately, your nose gets the final vote.

That's really what Smell Me Daddy is about: exploring fragrance, learning along the way, sharing what I experience, and hopefully helping you discover something that feels unmistakably your own.

Wear what you love.
Wear it confidently.
And never be afraid to smell unforgettable.
